Effective communication

Effective communication

Short description

Good observation, Correct Interpretation and Effective Communication

Target group
As a participant in this training, you will most likely be a quick thinker, acting decisively and knowing what you want. Nevertheless, you may have noticed that sometimes it is hard to get everyone ‘on board’. Your behaviour may even lead to opposition as people find you impatient or feel forced into things. You are not sure why? You may believe “the less said the better”. But how good a listener are you? In this course, you will learn to communicate more effectively and to work better in a team. To participate in this training, you should operate at a professional/university level.

Course content
This course is about ’Learning by doing’. Following a theoretical introduction on language and communication, we concentrate primarily on practical exercises.

This training deals with the following topics:

  • Personal examples: when do misunderstandings occur?
  • Relationship between language – thinking – behaviour
  • Different kinds of speech – making a distinction
  • Interpretation, opinions, prejudices and facts
  • Relationship types and effective interaction
  • Being alert to others and responding accordingly
  • Non-verbal communication
  • Communication layers
  • Giving and receiving feedback
  • Adapting your questions to your target audience

Results
You will better understand your own style of communication and that of others. You will learn to take note of misunderstandings and how to solve them. You will be alert to the reactions of others and adapt your behaviour accordingly. You will be able to delay your response, and not to reply rashly. You will also understand the effect of non-verbal communication (body language).

Competences strengthened during the training:

  • Conflict management
  • Flexibility
  • Listening
  • Teamwork
  • Tactful and sensitive behaviour
  • Self-management
