Becoming a Professional Coach will give you a clear overview of coaching.

Short description

Target group
You are an internal or external coach, staff executive, careers advisor or personnel officer, and you wish to professionalise your coaching skills. You have studied at a bachelors or masters institute and you can work and think at this level. You will be expected to carry out coaching sessions during the training course.

Course content
The training course is very individually and practically oriented.

The training deals with the following topics:

  • Insight into yourself as coach, and your coaching recipient
  • Visions on coaching and learning
  • Basic coaching attitude
  • Coaching skills and styles of intervention
  • The phases of a coaching scheme
  • Coaching questions explained and coaching scheme objectives
  • Coaching methods and model theories
  • Dealing effectively with resistance and stalemates
  • Urging coaching recipients to be eager, to take choices and action, partly using their own  development plan
  • Drawing attention to and intervening adequately in circumstances that arise during coaching sessions

Throughout the course modules you will take part in practical sessions with the other participants to coach each other on topical questions and dealing with problems experienced in actual working situations.

Results
You will have a clear perception of coaching which will be obvious in your basic approach as a coach. You will be able to keep in touch with yourself and with the person you are coaching, and you will be aware of your mutual requirements. Thus you will remain focused on the needs of the recipient. You will gain insight into your own style, qualities, shortcomings and your position as a coach. You will know how to apply various skills, methods and models. You will work on the basis of commitment and help the coaching recipients to increase their self-managing, self-learning and problem-solving capacities. You will learn how to set up a coaching scheme and sessions in appropriate phases. You will be able to use a range of well-considered interventions.
