From Professional to Manager

Short description

An intensive and comprehensive course

This course consist of 5 modules
Each module may be offered separately in a tailor-made set-up. 

Target group
As a participant, you should have at least one year of experience in management. You seek to deepen your understanding of your leadership role, in order to capitalize on your own qualities and those available within your team. You wish to perform more efficiently and effectively. To participate in this training, you should have enjoyed a higher vocational education or fulfil an academic level position. 

Course content
At the start: The training starts by setting your personal goal using the Schouten Training Career planner and completing a Personal Performance Questionnaire to identify your strengths and development points.  It is important to be aware of your own assets and points of improvement. The training focuses on the main aspects of leadership that play a crucial role in your performance as a manager (R. Quinn model).  In between training modules, you will participate in intermissions groups with other participants. 

Module 1
Personal leadership effectiveness: awareness and feedback on your personal behaviour and managerial style, and training and practise how to adjust and improve;

Module 2
Assertive communication: feedback and communications skills, relevant conversation skills and interview techniques. Knowledge of and practice with the Human Resource Management (HRM) cycle. How to make result oriented agreements and ensure mutual commitment.

Module 3
Management style: conscientious, stimulating and result-oriented. How to direct and steer the results that you would like accomplish with (individuals in) your team. How to ensure that team members feel connected with the objectives and the tasks that you, as their leader, set on them.

Module 4
Leadership and motivation: how to act as a coach by facilitating and encouraging employees to work towards a professional development that is in line with their ambition and attitude. Speak to people’s sense of personal responsibility and enable them to bring this into practice.

Module 5
Management of time and stress: how to manage yourself in the limited time that is available to you. How to plan and organise work with stress. What pro-active actions can you take to maintain a healthy work climate?

Results
You will be able to consciously manage and exploit your behaviour as a leader. You will have successfully shifted your orientation from focusing on the task at hand, to showing more attention for others. Your team management style will be conscientious, stimulating and results-oriented. In addition, you will be able to clearly position yourself and raise your profile within your organisation, by regularly taking the initiative and dealing with problems effectively. You will achieve these goals without having to bend over backwards. You will rely on your personal strengths, of which you have gained a clearer picture thanks to the training. You will be aware of your own assets and points for improvement.
